As an industry, we are constantly looking for ways to complete projects faster, more economically, and safely, all while keeping our eye on the pulse of technology and the latest trends. As part of our 2018 Annual Winter Conference scheduled for February 27 & 28, MBI has scheduled two full days of seminars covering many relevant topics for commercial construction, which will be delivered by some of the best and brightest minds in the industry.  Below we’ve highlighted a few of these timely industry topics and seminar offerings:

Pre-Fabrication / Modular Construction

This popular commercial construction method has been gaining some traction in Iowa over the past couple of years. Attend the following to learn more about pre-fab and how it can work for your company!

  • Tuesday, February 27:
    • Pre-Fab in Commercial Construction – Art of the Possible will feature a panel of presenters who will discuss their experiences with pre-fab and the future of this fascinating construction method.
  • Wednesday, February 28:
    • The Safety Awards Breakfast will include to a keynote address from Danny Forster, who is an architect and film producer of architectural documentaries around the world. Danny will describe how he went from being an architect to filming architectural wonders and is now working on designing the world’s tallest modular structure.

Elite Leadership and Talent Development

With workforce development and retention on the minds of many contractors across the nation, staying up to date on the latest leadership and recruitment practices is crucial in order to compete. As part of the MBI Annual Winter Conference, we’re offering multiple sessions to help you invest in the future of your company.

  • Tuesday, February 27:
    • Wally Adamchik will present Influence – The Art and Science of Getting Others to Act in the morning, followed that afternoon by Team Leadership and Reinvention.
    • Presented by FMI speaker Jim Schug, Talent Development and the Future of Your Company will highlight how to maximize performance and develop a culture of success through training and developing talent within your own firm. In the afternoon, Jim will present Hiring and Retaining the Right People, which will explore recruiting strategies, how to hire quality employees, successful leadership styles, and the many benefits of performance evaluations.

High-Level Safety Culture

Creating a high-level safety culture within a commercial construction company or even on a single project is a challenge…one that many industry leadership teams strive for. With so many pieces, personalities, and schedules involved, it is critical that companies work to improve their safety culture every day!  In an effort to help contractors gain some traction in building a great safety culture within their companies, MBI has scheduled two outstanding seminars on Wednesday, February 28th as part of our Annual Winter Conference.

  • Wednesday, February 28:
    • Contractors’ Best Safety Practices will be presented by 2017 MBI / IOSHA Outstanding Safety Achievement Award winners Lee Hollatz (The Hansen Company) and David Bougger (Waldinger Corporation).
    • Josh Jacobsen of Holmes Murphy will deliver Creating an Environment Where Positive Behaviors Rule.
    • Not Just a Bolt-On: Integrating Safety Into Operational Excellence will be led by Justin Ganschow of Caterpillar, Inc.
    • Dan Murphy will present Some to None: No Nonsense Safety Management Driving Losses to Zero during a two-part session on Wednesday afternoon.
