How can I help celebrate my company, the people in it, and our industry as a whole?

This week, construction professionals from around the state are set to celebrate Construction Week 2018 (Monday, Oct. 1 through Friday, Oct. 5).  For the third year in a row, MBI is leading the way in promoting awareness of the construction industry as a safe, exciting and rewarding career option. As an industry, it is apparent that we need to continue our focus on building the pipeline for recruiting and preparing new workers for the construction trades.  Construction Week 2018 is meant to be an avenue for that focus. We must continue to shift the public’s negative perception about careers in the construction industry to the reality of the positive experience.

So what can you do to help us promote Construction Week 2018?

For starters, this campaign is an opportunity for you to reach out to your local schools in an effort to educate students, parents, teachers, counselors and school leaders about the opportunities available in our industry. For a list of your local school contacts, send me an email  Counselors and teachers are always looking for opportunities to connect their kids with people in the community who are paving the way for future opportunities.

Secondly, you can “shine the spotlight” on your exceptional field workers.  As a part of our Construction Week celebration, we are asking members of Master Builders of Iowa to submit exceptional field staff to have the spotlight on them! As you can attest, these folks deserve some recognition. Let’s give them a shout and say, GREAT JOB! We will post all submissions sporadically throughout Construction Week 2018 on our Facebook and Twitter feeds. We will also create a photo gallery of all submissions on our website and they will be featured in the Winter Edition of InsideMBI. Simply return the Submission Form and a high resolution photo of your exceptional field worker to Aly Schmidt!

Lastly, we have put together a library of online resources to help you celebrate and promote Construction Week.  However you choose to celebrate, be sure to share your ideas and pictures with us by using #ConstructionWeek18 in your social media posts, and by emailing them to aschmidt@mbionline.com.
