Last week at the Annual Winter Conference we were able to present the first Master Builder Achievement Award during the Masters Award Luncheon.  Lee Hollatz of The Hansen Company has ‘done it.’  Lee is the first Master Builder Achievement Award recipient!

The Master Builder Designation recognition program was started by MBI just prior to the 2012-13 training season.  The program was developed to encourage employees of MBI firms to strive for lifelong learning in the construction industry by granting credits for each course or program attended.  Credits are awarded in the areas of Leadership, Project Management, Ecological Construction, Ethics, and Safety, with every education program that MBI offers providing credits in one or more of these areas.  The Master Builder Design Achievement Award is earned when an individual surpasses 150 credits and fulfills the requirements in each of the areas listed above.

We worked with a local artist to create an award unlike anything that has been given before. Utilizing materials and images of the commercial construction industry, this award will become the centerpiece of each and every recipient’s office or display case. Earning this award is no easy feat, so it is very fitting that the award be extremely unique.

This year marks the first time an individual has reached the credit hours necessary to attain the designation of Master Builder.  Lee has taken numerous MBI training and leadership courses, including:

  • 2013 Safety Leadership Conference
  • 2013 Annual Winter Conference
  • 2013 Safety and Environmental Conference
  • 2012 Project Managers / Supervisors Series
  • 2014 Annual Winter Conference
  • 2015 Annual Winter Conference
  • Ethical Business is Good Business
  • 2015 Regional Membership Meeting
  • 2016 Annual Winter Conference
  • 2016 MB Eye on the Future
  • Secrets of Power Negotiating
  • The Drone Age
  • 2016 Regional Membership Meeting
  • Controlling the Silica Hazard in Construction
  • 2017 Cornerstone Academy

We know this will not be the end of his professional development path, but just a step along his journey.

Lee Hollatz, The Hansen Company

“Taking home some hardware from this year’s Master Builders of Iowa Winter Conference! Couldn’t have done it without the help and support of a great company like Hansen Company and all the employees and members of MBI. Never stop learning. Thanks all!” — Lee Hollatz

So, as Voltaire said, ‘The biggest reward for a thing well done is to have done it.’  Receiving industry-wide recognition and a really cool trophy are an added bonus.
